Evaluation of reproduction efficiency traits in different genetic groups of dairy cattle

The data on 244 crossbreds of Hariana cattle sired by Friesian, Brown Swiss and Jersey bulls maintained at the Animal Farm of CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar over a period of nine years (1976-1984) were analysed from first to fourth lactation. The overall least square means for first calving interval (CI-1), number of services per conception (NS/C), breeding efficiency by Wilcox (BEW) and breeding efficiency by Tomar (BET) were 457.22 +- 14.25 days, 2.08 +- 0.06, 83.59 +- 1.65 per cent and 94.95 +- 0.83 per cent, respectively. The genetic group differences were significant (P lt 0.05) for calving interval and non-significant for number of services per conception, breeding efficiency by Wilcox and breeding efficiency by Tomar. The effect of period of calving was significant (P lt 0.01) for BEW. Season of calving showed non-significant effects on all the traits under study. The effect of age at first calving was significant for NS/C and BET.
