Of the cereals rice, maize, wheat, barley, jowar and bajra and 2 pulses, gram and peas fed separately in the laboratory to the Indian gerbil (Tatera indica indica) and bandicoot rat (Bandicota bengalensis), wheat was the most preferred food, followed by rice, chickpeas, maize, P. glaucum, sorghum, peas and barley for B. bengalensis. In the case of T. indica indica, the order of food preference was rice, wheat, P. glaucum, maize, sorghum, chickpeas, barley and peas.
