Generation process of growth stresses in cell walls V. Model of tensile stress generation in gelatinous fibers

Generation process of growth stresses in cell walls V. Model of tensile stress generation in gelatinous fibers

Mokuzai Gakkaishi = Journal of the Japan Wood Research Society 39(2): 118-125

To clarify the contribution of the gelatinous layer (G-layer) to the generation of large tensile growth stress, the experimental results on growth stresses in tension wood were simulated by using a mechanical model of G-fibres. The simulation revealed that the cellulose microfibril generated large tensile stress during cell maturation. In consequence, the G-fibres generated a large tensile stress in the longitudinal direction.
