Growth of Scots pine stands in conditions of industrial atmospheric pollution on the Kola peninsula

Growth of Scots pine stands in conditions of industrial atmospheric pollution on the Kola peninsula

Lesnoe Khozyaistvo ( 5): 20-22

Studies were made of the growth of pure middle-aged stands of Pinus sylvestris at various distances from the Severonikel (Northern Nickel) combine. An index of SO2 activity in the air over the last 15 years was developed, this ranging from values below 0.07 mg SO2/dmsuperscript 2 per day at distances above 50 km from the pollution source, to 0.67 mg/dmsuperscript 2 at 8 km.
