Hurricane damage to different coconut varieties

Hurricane damage to different coconut varieties

Tropical Agriculture 71(3): 239-242

Malayan Dwarf coconut has been reported to be susceptible to wind damage. This study assesses quantitatively the damage to selfed and outcrossed Malayan Dwarf, grown in field experiments at different sites, which resulted from the passage of Hurricane Gilbert across Jamaica in 1988. Selfed Malayan Dwarf suffered higher mortality than the outcrosses tested.
