Identification of Xanthomonas campestris pv. juglandis from (Persian) English walnut nursery trees in South Africa

Identification of Xanthomonas campestris pv. juglandis from (Persian) English walnut nursery trees in South Africa

Journal of Phytopathology 143(8): 449-454

Bacterial isolates producing yellowish colonies on nutrient agar were recovered from leaves of nursery trees with symptoms of walnut blight in the Cape Province of South Africa. The isolates were identified by pathogenicity tests on leaves of walnut and plum trees in the greenhouse. Fifteen isolates from 4 cultivars at 2 nurseries produced typical lesions of blight on walnut and 1 isolate, typical lesions of bacterial spot disease on plum leaves.
