Export markets and, to a lesser extent, home markets are increasingly demanding fruits of consistent high quality. To achieve the required standards, quality management at all stages of production and distribution is becoming very important. Mechanical damage, which can occur during harvesting, packing house operations, handling and transport, represents a serious hazard to quality and has the potential to reduce significantly the value of the product.
