A study was undertaken to assess the impact of tillage in arresting the processes of active salinization particularly in the surface soil of a Vertic Ustrochrept in Gujarat, India. Five treatments were compared: very deep ploughing by power-driven disc; deep ploughing by mouldboard plough; shallow ploughing by rotary tiller; very shallow ploughing by tine cultivator; and fallow. Disc ploughing was the most effective treatment in arresting the salt rise.
