Infestation levels of the mite Varroa jacobsoni in worker and drone honey bee (Apis mellifera) brood in France and Brazil

Infestation levels of the mite Varroa jacobsoni in worker and drone honey bee (Apis mellifera) brood in France and Brazil

Revista de Biologia Tropical 41(3B): 883-886

Studies were carried out in France and Brazil to compare the number of colonizing females of Varroa jacobsoni in worker and drone cells of Apis mellifera mellifera (France) and A. m. scutellata (Brazil), as well as the effect of drone larvae surrounding worker cells in the same comb, for temperate and tropical conditions. The larvae of worker bees in France contained a greater number of colonizing females of the mite than those in Brazil.
