Influence of 2 herbicides and 4 dates of fruit removal in the pineapple (Ananas comosus, L. Merr.) cultivar Red Spanish on the production of propagating material

Plants of this cultivar, growing at 41 666/ha, were chemically induced to flower at 15 months and the fruit was removed 65, 83, 102 or 120 days after induction. The control plants remained intact. Additionally, bromacil at 5 kg/ha or bromacil at 2 kg/ha + diuron at 3 kg/ha were tested in comparison with manual weed removal to determine the influence on bud induction and growth in order to obtain propagules (slips, shoots and suckers).
