The treatment with inert gases (high carbon dioxide or low-oxygen atmospheres) are being developed more and more as a substitute for the use of chemical insecticides against stored grain pest insects. At high temperatures, they have a rather rapid effect compared with low temperatures. In this study, different gas mixtures of O-2, CO-2 and N-2 were prepared to control the eggs of Corcyra cephalonica, Sitotroga cerealella and Ephestia elutella at 15 degree C and 25 degree C. A method of preparing the different gas mixtures of the pure components was developed by using very accurate manometers. 20% and 40% CO-2 content in air for 7 days and 5 days were sufficient to control all insect eggs at 15 degree C and 25 degree C, respectively. The eggs of E. elutella at 15 degree C for LT5-50 and LT-95 levels showed the most pronounced tolerance, but at 25 degree C were more sensitive than the eggs of other species at both levels.
