Kidney lesions and the content of urea in ocular fluid and meat juices of slaughter sows. Evaluation of a rapid test, Merkognost Harnstoff, for estimating the uraemia status of slaughter sows

Kidney lesions and the content of urea in ocular fluid and meat juices of slaughter sows. Evaluation of a rapid test, Merkognost Harnstoff, for estimating the uraemia status of slaughter sows

Dansk Veterinaertidsskrift 77(20): 885-886, 888-890

In 50 sows, 25 of which were suspected of being uraemic, the accuracy of a stix-test (Merkognost Harnstoff) was comparable to that of laboratory fluid and meat juices of slaughter sows. Optimal distinction between carcasses with and without normal and elevated urea levels in ocular fluid was 14 mg urea-N/dl fluid.
