Life history of the Perina nuda (Fabricius) and virus production of the infected pupae

Life history of the Perina nuda (Fabricius) and virus production of the infected pupae

Chinese Journal of Entomology 15(1): 59-68

The biology of the lymantriid Perina nuda, an important widespread pest of banyans (Ficus spp.) in Taiwan, is described with the aid of colour photographs. In the laboratory at 20 +or- 1 degrees C, 80-85% RH and LD 12:12, there were 6 larval instars averaging 5.17, 4.54, 4.72, 5.28 5.22 and 7.83 days' duration, resp. Pupation takes place in a cocoon on the upper surface of a leaf, adult emergence peaks at 07.00-0.900 h and mating at 11.00-13.30 h.
