Most EU farms cannot provide a living

Most EU farms cannot provide a living

Forderungsdienst 42(11): 330-333

It is estimated that a standard gross margin (SGM) of DM 100 000 is needed to provide an adequate living for a farm family and allow for necessary maintenance and updating investment into the next century. On the basis of the 1990 EU farm structure census it is calculated that only about 525 000 of the 8.17 million EU farms meet this criterion.
