Performance of flangeless mill top rolls at Cajun Sugar Cooperative, New Iberia, Louisiana

Performance of flangeless mill top rolls at Cajun Sugar Cooperative, New Iberia, Louisiana

Sugar Journal 55(10): 16-17

The concept of flangeless mill top rollers was originated in 1972 by J.A.P. Jacquelin at Tongaat Sugar factory in South Africa; with its adoption, the top roller flanges of each mill are replaced with stationary flanges of heavy (e.g. 2 inches thick) steel plate, bolted onto the mill housing. Such modifications were performed at Cajun Sugar Co-op in 1990 after the milling tandem had been converted to the 4-roller design, fitted with drag-type intermediate carriers and vertical Donnelly chutes.
