Journal of Horticultural Science 70(1): 147-156



The photosynthetic rate (A), transpiration rate (E), stomatal conductance (gs) and internal CO2 concentration of the proximal, medial and distal parts of young and mature leaves of banana Grand Nain plants, grown at Burgershall Research Station, eastern Transvaal (South Africa), were analysed. During vegetative growth, the 2nd to 5th leaves showed the highest values of A, E and gs. No significant differences were found between measurements from the proximal, medial or distal leaf parts.
