The presence of genes for resistance to Puccinia striiformis was tested in 39 cultivars from these Chinese provinces on the basis of response to 16 foreign and 4 Chinese strains with different virulence genes. Only 8 known genes (Yr1, Yr2, Yr3, Yr7, Yr9, Yr10, YrSu and YrSD), alone or in combination, were postulated in 20 of the tested cultivars. Gene Yr9 derived from rye was present in 11 cultivars.
