Reaction of spring triticale and spring wheat cultivars to weather conditions

Spring triticale Gabo, Jago and Maja and spring wheat Eta and Broma were grown on good rye complex soil in 1991-92. Weather conditions in 1991 were favourable for growth and yield of spring crops, but in 1992 there was a drought from mid-May until late Aug. Tillering and number of spikes/msuperscript 2 were 30-50% lower and yield about 60% lower in 1992 than in 1991. The reaction to drought was less in triticale than in wheat. Triticale Gabo was least and wheat Eta most affected by drought.
