In a field experiment in 1990-91 at Langgewens Experimental Farm, South Africa, wheat Palmiet and SST 66 were given 50, 100 or 150 kg N as a urea ammonium nitrate mixture and 0, 12.5, 25 or 50 kg S/ha as phospho-gypsum. At the lowest level all N was applied at sowing. At higher N levels the applications were split between sowing time, the end of tillering and booting growth stages. Both cultivars gave similar plant DW, and were increased by increasing N.
