The efficiency of weeding in paddy fields in Japan is discussed in relation to the area and slope of levees to be weeded, and the length of the road or drainage canal. It is suggested that widening paddy fields would effectively reduce the weeding area, particularly on sloping land. Reducing the width of roads and canals may also be effective.
