Abstract
Concentrations of HCH and its isomers, DDT compounds and PCBs in several aquatic ecosystems in Yugoslavia are reported, from observations on water, sediments, fish muscle and the eggs of aquatic birds. Serious contamination was found in the Danube, Tisa, Lake Palic and the fish-pond Ecka. Because of the concn of these pollutants at the top levels, fishes, bird eggs and sediments were excellent indicators for detecting traces of these organic compounds whose presence in water would be difficult to measure directly.
