In field experiments in farmer's fields in Punjab in 1989/90, maize Navjot was sown in June and wheat HD 2329 in Nov. and both cultivars were given 0, 40 or 80 kg N, 0 or 40 kg P2O5 and 0 or 40 kg K2O/ha. Soil inoculation with Azotobacter was applied in treatments given N + P + K and 25 kg ZnSO4/ha was also given with 80 kg N + 40 kg each of P2O5 and K2O. Maize and wheat grain yields increased with increase in the application of N with P + K.
