The dangers of weeding on steep slopes in paddy fields using power grass cutters are discussed. Following an investigation in Japan it is reported that farmers did not take full safety measures, although some had set a step on the levee slope. It is recommended that the use of gentler slopes combined with narrow ledges in the slopes would improve safety; however, this is often not possible as it increases the amount of unusable land.
