Stellera chamaejasme: an overview

The genus Stellera is widely accepted at present as containing a single species, S. chamaejasme This rare herbaceous perennial has a woody rootstock. It is very decorative with white or yellow fragrant flowers and is relatively easy to grow, but it has proved extremely difficult to propagate. Its taxonomy, distribution (China, Mongolia and the Himalaya), botanical characteristics, local uses, and behaviour in the wild and in cultivation are discussed.
