Chemical composition and energy content of the conceptus, reproductive organs and liveweight changes of pregnant and lactating sows were estimated in relation to litter number (1, 2 and 4) and energy supply (120, 100 and 80% of NRC) and course of pregnancy and lactation. The results can be used as a basis for factorial derivation of energy requirements. Protein and energy retention in the conceptus are characterized exponentially by pregnancy and lactation stage.
