Studies on herbage utilization by grazing dairy cows under strip grazing. II. Herbage intake and milk yield affected by the levels of daily herbage allowance

Dairy cows strip grazed a Lolium perenne sward at 3 levels of herbage allowance in 3 experimental periods. During the growth period and as herbage allowance fell the N, chrome and ash levels in the faeces decreased. Digestibility decreased from period 1 (82.7%) to period 3 (79.1%) and from the high level of allowance (81.6%) to the low level (79.9%). Daily intake was reduced by the low level of herbage allowance.
