In 1990 several species of the genera Eimeria and Goussia were found during the examination of marine and freshwater fishes from New South Wales, Australia. In freshwater hosts, Goussia carpelli was found in Carassius auratus from a fish farm and Eimeria anguillae in Anguilla australis feral eels. A new species, G. piekarskii sp. nov., is described and figured from the small intestine of feral Gambusia holbrooki obtained from Dumaresque Creek, Armidale, New South Wales.
