Abstract
The effects of temperature (20-40 degrees C) on pollen germination rate (percentage) and pollen tube elongation were studied in 5 melon cultivars grown in plastic greenhouses. The highest germination rates (54.1-88.4%) occurred at 30 and 35 degrees C. A night temperature of 5 degrees the day before the opening of the male flower reduced pollen germination rate and pollen tube growth the next morning compared with night temperatures of 10 and 15 degrees .
