Studies on the inheritance and variability of high molecular weight glutenin subunits and their correlation with quality and other agronomic characters in wheat

Studies on the inheritance and variability of high molecular weight glutenin subunits and their correlation with quality and other agronomic characters in wheat

Acta Agronomica Sinica 20(1): 67-75

The grain protein of 757 wheats from China and abroad was fractionated by SDS-PAGE to determine high molecular weight (HMW) glutenin subunit composition. Of the 65 HMW glutenin subunits found, 53 were common and 12 rare. The number of subunits was greater in foreign than Chinese varieties, and greater in improved Chinese than local Chinese varieties. The association of HMW glutenin subunits with quality traits and other agronomic characters is indicated.
