Studies on the physiology of plant growth of seven cytosteriles and their hybrids in pearlmillet (Pennisetum typhoides (Burm) Stapf and Hubbard)

A half diallel of 7 CMS P. typhoides lines, their maintainers and 21 F1 hybrids was investigated. Mean squares analysis revealed variability for leaf area, relative leaf growth rate (RLGR), leaf area ratio (LAR), leaf area index (LAI) and grain yield. The magnitude of leaf area, LAR and LAI values increased up to growth stages III, II and III, respectively. RLGR, however, declined towards maturity.
