Study on the tissue culture of strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa). 2. Organ differentiation and virus-free stock production from petiole tissue culture

Petioles of strawberry cultivars Nyoho and Suhong were cultured on Linsmaier & Skoog media containing different levels of NAA, 2,4-D and BA to examine callus formation and organ differentiation. Regenerants were tested for virus infection and growth characteristics. Callus was well formed on media containing both auxin and cytokinin, particularly when the auxin/cytokinin ratio was high. Varietal differences were observed in green callus formation from dark brown callus culture.
