The Grafenberg arboretum

AFZ, Allgemeine Forst Zeitschrift 49(20): 1130-1131

The Grafenberg arboretum

An account is given of the establishment in 1914 and subsequent development of an arboretum of exotics in a state forest in S. Germany. Of the 148 species introduced, 80 still survive (43 conifers, 37 broadleaves), and now the arboretum resembles a mixed stand of selection-type structure. The site, provenances, failures, growth, vitality, growing-space requirement, competition and general suitability of the species are discussed.
