The aleyrodids or 'whitefly' of citrus and their control

Informatore Agrario 49(49): 59-66

The geographic distribution, morphology, biology and natural enemies of Bemisia afer, Aleurothrixus floccosus, Dialeurodes citri and Parabemisia myricae, aleyrodid pests of Citrus in Italy, are described. Aleyrodids cause damage by sucking on the lymph of the plants and in the emission of honeydew, on which fungi develop. They also cause damage by the production of wax which impedes the normal physiological functions of the plant and makes chemical control difficult. Some species (eg.
