The breeding and characteristics of a buckwheat cultivar, Kitayuki

Research Bulletin of the Hokkaido National Agricultural Experiment Station ( 159): 11-21

Kitayuki, developed by individual and pedigree selection from the local variety Tsubetsu, was registered as buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) Norin 2. Kitayuki matures later, produces a higher yield and has the same plant height as local variety Botansoba. It also has the same 1000-grain weight, similar processing quality and greater resistance to Peronospora fagopyri.
