The nutrient regime of Scots pine forests in conditions of industrial atmospheric pollution on the Kola peninsula

The nutrient regime of Scots pine forests in conditions of industrial atmospheric pollution on the Kola peninsula

Lesovedenie ( 1): 37-44

Studies were made on Pinus sylvestris forests growing at the northern forest limit in Russia (Pechenga region, Murmansk), where they have been exposed for over 50 years to pollution from a copper-nickel combine. The main emissions are compounds of S, Ni and Cu. Plots were established in forests 44, 34, 15, 10 and 8 km from the pollution source, and data are presented on the contents of metals in the soil horizons and the chemical properties of the soils (Al-Fe humus podzolic soils).
