The role of Rhynchaenus fagi Linneo, 1758, in the primary consumption of leaves of beeches in the Sierra del Moncayo (Zaragoza) (Col.: Curculionidae)

Zapateri 3: 37-45

Leaf consumption by Rhynchaenus fagi was calculated on the basis of perforations made by adults in live and decaying leaves of Fagus sylvaticus in Spain. Differences between different heights and annual samples were slight. The study of decaying leaves gave an adequate estimation of consumption of live leaves. Individual attacks due to adults were discrete perforations. The probability of 2 attacks at the same leaf position was low.
