The role of Schizophyllum commune, Chondrostereum purpureum and Hypoxylon fragiforme in white rot in beech wood

The role of Schizophyllum commune, Chondrostereum purpureum and Hypoxylon fragiforme in white rot in beech wood

Les Ljubljana 47(5): 137-140

Loss in wood weight and the reduction in compression strength were measured after test specimens of beech (Fagus sylvatica) had been exposed to the fungi for 1, 2 or 3 months. Results showed that the greatest amount of decay was caused by Hypoxylon fragiforme, where it had previously been considered to cause only superficial colouring of the sapwood.
