Treatment of soyabean seed with fungicide and/or antibiotic and its effect on seedling emergence under conditions of low soil moisture content

In field trials in Londrina, Brazil, in 1977-80, soyabean Parana seeds varying in vigour in different years, were treated with 2.1 g thiram or 1.0 g streptomycin/kg, a mixture of both of these, or were untreated before sowing at a spacing of 30 seeds/m into a red latosol repeatedly cultivated to reduce soil moisture content. Plots were either irrigated at sowing or after 4, 8 or 12 d at a rate equivalent to 10 mm rainfall and soil moisture was then maintained until full establishment.
