Use of infrared thermometry and the Crop Water Stress Index (CWSI) for irrigation scheduling in soyabeans (Glycine max L. Merr.)

Use of infrared thermometry and the Crop Water Stress Index (CWSI) for irrigation scheduling in soyabeans (Glycine max L. Merr.)

Rivista di Agronomia 27(4): 282-289

In a field trial in 1990-91 at Mezzolara di Budrio, Italy, soyabeans Hodgson were grown under irrigation schedules corresponding to 3 CWSI thresholds (low water stress, 0.15; medium water stress, 0.50; and high water stress, 0.85). CWSI was calculated from leaf and air temperature measurements and crop evapotranspiration, measured by IR thermometer between 12.00 and 14.00 h. Yield in the low and medium water stress treatments was significantly higher than that of the non-irrigated control.
