Use of some varieties and hybrids with genetic resistance to scab and mildew in apple breeding at the Fruit Growing Research Station, Bistrita

Results are reported from a breeding programme during 1976-92 aimed at producing new varieties with resistance to Venturia inaequalis, Podosphaera leucotricha and adverse weather conditions. The crosses involved varieties and hybrids with disease susceptibility but good fruit quality on the one hand and varieties and hybrids with horizontal or vertical resistance (including some with Vf genes for vertical resistance to V. inaequalis) on the other.
