Variability and interrelationship of yield and its attributes in chickpea

Thirteen characters were evaluated in 96 cultivars during the winter of 1989. Average seed yield was 1906 kg/ha. Eight cultivars performed better than the control variety H208 (2540 kg/ha), though only one was significantly superior. High levels of variability were observed for pods/plant (51%), branches/plant (38%), 100-seed weight (31%), biological yield (30%) and seeds/pod (26%). Twelve, 27, 10, 9 and 30 cultivars performed better than the control variety for these characters, respectively.
