Variations in properties of the forest litter of a ferrallitic soil of French Guyana in relation to tree species. Preliminary results

Variations in properties of the forest litter of a ferrallitic soil of French Guyana in relation to tree species. Preliminary results

Cahiers ORSTOM, Serie Pedologie ished 1994; 27(1): 37-45

Seventy percent of wood production in French Guiana comes from three tree species: Dicorynia guianensis (DG), Ruizterania albiflora (RA) and Ocotea rubra (OR). The effect of each species on humus characteristics and soil properties was studied in a ferrallitic soil. Morphology and biological activity in the humus layer were markedly affected by tree species.
