A globulin fraction prepared from meal of Callosobruchus maculatus-resistant cowpea seeds was shown to be detrimental to the bruchid when incorporated into artificial seeds. The survival and growth of C. maculatus was also shown to be strongly reduced by vicilins (storage proteins) from resistant seeds when the proteins were incorporated into artificial seeds at 2%.
