A production method for limiting the transmission of geminivirus by the whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) in tomatoes in Comayagua Valley, Honduras

Proceedings of the Interamerican Society for Tropical Horticulture 39: 46-61

An alternative to direct sowing of tomatoes for processing in the Comayagua Valley, Honduras, is proposed because this method provides a longer period over which plants can be infected by a geminivirus transmitted by Bemisia tabaci. The proposed methodology consists of raising seedlings in greenhouses, and transplanting 18- to 20-day-old seedlings in large field blocks. The objective of this block-transplanting is to reduce the chance of cross infection from old to younger plants.
