Herbage production, botanical composition and soil chemical characteristics were investigated in new and old pastures during the grazing seasons between May 1993 and October 1994, to find out the condition of pastures grazed by horses on Cheju. DM yield was 8757 and 7486 kg/ha in new and old pastures, respectively; corresponding sward heights were 17.4 and 12.1 cm.
