A study on the anther culture breeding and genetic efficiency in hybridization between indica and japonica rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Anther culture of indica and japonica parents and their F1s, F2s and BC1F1s was investigated. Culture response of the hybrids was positively correlated with that of the parents. Culturability was in the order BC1F1 > F2 > F1. Progenies from anther culture not only showed the same genetic variation as conventional progenies but anther culture also allowed recessive traits to be expressed in early generations.
