The effects of row spacing and different intercrops (maize, raya potatoes, mungbeans, soyabeans and lentils) on the microclimate and growth of pawpaws was studied in a field trial at Ludhiana in 1994-96. Neither plant spacing nor intercrop had a significant effect on the number of pawpaw fruits per plant or average fruit weight. Plant spacing had no effect on fruit yield per plant but fruit yield was lowest in both years when the pawpaws were intercropped with raya.
