M. salicicola is reported for the first time from Sao Paulo, Brazil. The symptoms appear on the leaf surface, leaf veins, petioles and all the young green tissue of the host plant. The Marssonina leaf spot is commonly unnoticed in the state of Sao Paulo, because it appears associated with rust caused by Melampsora epitea, the most important Salix leaf disease in Brazil, with more numerous and evident pustules.
