Aspects of biology of Ecpantheria abdominalis Walker, 1864 (Lepidoptera; Arctiidae) on foliage of mulberry - Morus alba L. (Moraceae)

Revista Ceres 42(245): 93-101

The biology of Ecpantheria abdominalis (Hypercompe abdominalis) was studied in the laboratory at 25 degrees C, 60% RH and LD 12:12, using insects collected from mulberry in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The larval stage lasted 41.95 days, with 86.67% viability. There were 7 instars predominantly, with some individuals having 8. The preoviposition period was 5.11 days, with 383.11 eggs/female and 4.11 days between ovipositions. Only one female had viable eggs.
