Visual evaluation of eggplants in a sorting house was compared with instrumented evaluation using integrated data on relative spectral reflectance in the visible range to obtain objective standards for evaluation of gloss. The relative spectral reflectance and the colour difference were measured, and it was found that the gloss on the surface of eggplants differs from the lightness.
